YOU ARE WHAT YOU ….. THINK

It is absolutely positively a scientifically proven fact… that the more time you spend thinking about something the more you will believe it’s true and embrace it as reality.

This is a challenging topic, because we all feel very

there is something you must always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think

deeply about our circumstances and situations.  We have all built an elaborate castle of the “why’s”.

Why: we are here
Why: we are doing it
Why: we are putting up with it
Why: we haven’t done something

In most cases it’s because of the way that we speak to ourselves, and think about ourselves.

Wait… don’t go read someone else’s blog… gimme one more minute!   This isn’t a bunch of hooey… just listen.

When a person wakes up every morning dreading the day, the work load, the commute, the argument with a spouse, looking in the mirror, stepping on the scale…  that person is setting up their day to be filled with dread.

I am simply suggesting… that person turn it around.

Instead, that person can look for one thing… figure out one thing… one little thing…. to like or  forward to…
The commute… Commutes are known to ruin days… so, instead of dreading the drive, or train ride… make it a pleasure.  Find a way to look forward to the 45 minutes in bumper to bumper or on a crowded train… I like audio books. I can listen to them in the car, or on the train and it passes the time quickly and pleasantly.

The workload… Feeling the pressure of deadlines and overwhelmed by demands?  I had that problem and found that I needed to organize, prioritize and set goals.  I also started letting people know where they were in my hierarchy of priorities and when I would have their project done.   This helped set expectations and relieved A LOT of pressure.
The argument with the spouse. … It takes 2 people to argue.  really.  two people.  Personally I found if I don’t engage, no matter how good the other person is  at pushing my buttons, there is no argument.  It really does take 2 people to argue…  I believe that someone who is always picking a fight is very unhappy, and that has nothing to do with me.

My happiness is not tied up in other people, because I have no control over other people and their actions.   I am happy and I spread happiness and joy when I can… it’s not my job to “make” other people happy… I can only provide an example of happiness.

I think you get the idea.  Instead of  a normal knee jerk negative reaction… I think, I pause, I consider a positive twist, or forward movement towards a positive goal and my day is much happier.  I am more satisfied with myself and my life.

My point in all of this rambling one-sided dialog is that we decide.

We decide how we are going to look at a situation.

We decide how much we will let negative thoughts affect our day.

We decide how we are view our roles.

I am suggesting that you take a moment to evaluate your most common and quick negative judgement about yourself and your situation and look for something positive instead.

OK, you don’t have to believe me… Do you believe these people?

“What I am suggesting is that each of us turn from the negativism that permeates our society and look for the remarkable good among those with whom we associate, that we speak of one another’s virtues more than we speak of one another’s faults, that optimism replace pessimism, that our faith exceed our fears. When I was a young man and was prone to speak critically, my father would say: “Cynics do not contribute, skeptics do not create, doubters do not achieve.”

And so… without further adieu…  I say.. HAVE AN AMAZING DAY!  YOU CAN DO IT!
